Disney+ Orders 'Afterlife With Archie' Series for Halloween 2027

Disney+ has officially ordered 'Afterlife With Archie,' a new hourlong drama series based on the popular comic book series of the same name. The show, which will premiere around Halloween 2027, is a reunion of the creative team behind 'Riverdale.' Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who co-wrote the comic with artist Francesco Francavilla, will adapt it for television. Greg Berlanti, a longtime producer on 'Riverdale,' will serve as an executive producer. The project had been in development since last year, when it received a script-to-series commitment from the streaming service. 'Afterlife With Archie' blends horror with the classic Archie characters. In the comic, a zombie outbreak strikes the town of Riverdale, forcing the familiar characters to fight for survival. The series will follow that premise, bringing a darker, supernatural tone to the Archie universe. Disney+ has not yet announced a specific launch date, but the fall 2027 window suggests a Halloween-themed release. The show joins a growing slate of comic-based content on the platform. No casting or additional episode details have been revealed. The series is one of several projects leveraging the 'Riverdale' team's expertise. Aguirre-Sacasa and Berlanti previously worked together on that show, which ended in 2023.
