Parts of northern Hong Kong face the highest risk of climate-related disasters, according to a study by the Hong Kong Red Cross released Thursday. The charity urged the government to incorporate climate resilience planning into development of the area. The report found that over 50% of the city faces high risk from two or three hazards simultaneously, such as typhoons, extreme heat, or fires.
Separately, a study of more than 128,000 U.S. adults found that those who experienced parental divorce during childhood had 41% higher odds of depression in adulthood compared to those whose parents remained married. However, when parental mental illness and substance use were accounted for, the association between divorce and depression declined substantially and was no longer statistically significant, suggesting that parental divorce itself may not be the main driver of later depression.
