Mumbai Mayor Rejects Report on Tree Collapse That Killed Boy, Orders Fresh Probe

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde has rejected an official report into a tree collapse that killed an 11-year-old boy last month, ordering a fresh investigation. The incident occurred in the Chembur area, where a large branch fell on Vihaan Srivastav, resulting in his death. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report had held contractors responsible but cleared civic officials of wrongdoing. It imposed only a nominal penalty on the contractor, which many found insufficient. Corporators criticized the report for failing to fix accountability for the child's death. Vihaan's father also questioned the transparency of the inquiry, demanding justice. Mayor Tawde said the report lacked thoroughness and directed the civic administration to conduct a new probe. The fresh investigation aims to identify all parties responsible and ensure appropriate action. The tree collapse has sparked public anger and raised concerns about safety in Mumbai's green spaces.
