Indian Party Demands PM Modi's Resignation Over Activist's Hospital Transfer
By TrendingWire Newsroom
A small Indian political party, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resignation after activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken to a hospital by police. CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke said the transfer was forceful and accused the government of suppressing dissent.
Sonam Wangchuk, a well-known climate activist from Ladakh, had been on a hunger strike to demand environmental protections for the region. On Monday, police moved him from the protest site to a hospital, citing health concerns. The CJP claims the activist was forcibly removed against his will.
The party, which has little electoral influence, said it will launch a campaign demanding Modi's resignation over what it calls an undemocratic act. The government has not commented on the allegation. Police have not explained the details of the transfer.
Wangchuk's hunger strike has drawn attention to the impact of climate change on Ladakh's fragile ecosystem. His supporters say the government is trying to silence peaceful protest. The incident has sparked debate about the handling of activists in India.
No official statement has been issued by the Prime Minister's office or the local administration regarding the CJP's demand. The protest continues as Wangchuk remains under medical observation.
