Iranian Province on Alert After Magnitude 5 Earthquake
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Authorities in Iran's Khuzestan province have placed emergency services on high alert following a magnitude 5 earthquake that struck the region earlier today. The governor of Khuzestan, Seyed Mohammad Reza Mowlaizadeh, stated that he has given orders for the full mobilization of rescue and operational teams, according to reports from Al Jazeera.
So far, no casualties or major property damage have been reported, Mowlaizadeh said. Official assessment teams are currently evaluating the situation across the affected areas. The earthquake hit in the morning, prompting immediate concern due to the province's history of seismic activity.
Khuzestan is located in southwestern Iran, near the border with Iraq. The region has experienced earthquakes in the past, including a devastating 5.7 magnitude quake in 2017 that caused casualties and damage. Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to frequent earthquakes. The government typically responds quickly to such events, deploying rescue forces and medical aid.
Residents in the province have been advised to stay cautious as aftershocks are possible. Emergency services remain on standby to respond to any further developments. The full extent of the earthquake's impact is still being determined by local authorities.
