Madhya Pradesh off-spinner Saransh Jain has received his first call-up to the Indian cricket team at the age of 33. He has been added to the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, which begins on August 15 in Galle. Jain replaces Washington Sundar, who was originally selected but has been ruled out due to injury.
Jain, who also contributes as an all-rounder, has a wealth of domestic cricket experience. He impressed former India spinner Harbhajan Singh during a five-day camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. According to reports, Jain caught the legendary off-spinner’s attention during that camp just four months ago. His consistent performances in domestic cricket ultimately earned him the national team call-up.
Jain’s selection marks a significant milestone in his career, as he makes his entry into international cricket relatively late. The Sri Lanka tour will be his first opportunity to represent India at the highest level. The two-match Test series is part of India's ongoing schedule, and Jain is expected to provide spin-bowling depth to the squad.
