Minnesota voters picked state House Speaker Lisa Demuth as the Republican nominee for governor on Tuesday, defeating Mike Lindell, the MyPillow founder who had the endorsement of President Trump. Demuth will face Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who easily won her party's primary, in the November general election.
In the other marquee race, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan captured the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. Former television sports reporter Michele Tafoya won the Republican Senate nomination. The two will compete in the fall to fill the seat being vacated by Klobuchar, who is running for governor.
Lindell's loss stands out as a rare defeat for a Trump-endorsed candidate in a Republican primary this year. Demuth, who leads the Minnesota House, had broad establishment support and campaigned on local issues.
Both general election matchups are now set, giving voters a clear choice in November.
