The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a human rights organization, has filed a criminal complaint in Portugal against an Israeli soldier named Etamar Ivry. The complaint accuses Ivry of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. According to the foundation, Ivry is currently on holiday in Lisbon. The HRF stated that its investigation found Ivry served as a member of the 890th Paratroopers Battalion in the 35th Paratroopers Brigade. The foundation claims he took part in the systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza. Evidence cited includes social media posts from Ivry showing videos of controlled demolitions of civilian buildings, particularly in the Netzarim Corridor area near al-Rashid Street. The complaint is part of ongoing efforts by the HRF to hold individuals accountable for actions during the conflict in Gaza. The group is named after Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed in Gaza earlier this year. The foundation has previously filed similar complaints in other countries. Portugal, as a signatory to the Rome Statute, can investigate and prosecute individuals accused of international crimes. It remains unclear whether Portuguese authorities will take action on the complaint. No official response from the Israeli government has been reported yet. The case highlights the growing use of universal jurisdiction laws to pursue alleged war criminals across borders. The HRF emphasized that its goal is to ensure justice for victims of violence in Gaza.
