The man charged in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur goes on trial Monday in Las Vegas. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, faces one count of murder with a deadly weapon, with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang in Shakur's death. Davis was charged in 2023 with organizing the murder, nearly 30 years after the shooting. Shakur, one of America's most iconic rappers, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996. The case remained one of the country's most notorious unresolved murders for decades. Davis's trial is expected to bring new scrutiny to the long-dormant investigation. Police have said Davis admitted to being in the car from which shots were fired, but the charge alleges he orchestrated the killing. The trial marks the first time anyone has faced prosecution for Shakur's death. Davis has been held in custody since his arrest. The proceedings are scheduled to begin Monday in a Las Vegas courtroom.
