Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has formally withdrawn President Donald Trump's 'anti-weaponisation' fund plan ahead of his confirmation hearing. The move follows a request from two Republican senators who wanted a written guarantee that Trump would not revive the controversial proposal.
Separately, Trump said he is holding off on threatened massive strikes against Iran, announcing that new talks aimed at winding down the war there will begin on August 3. Iran has denied negotiating with the United States and called Trump's bluff. This is not the first time Trump has announced potential talks after threatening aggressive military action, but this time Iran appears not to have yielded to the strategy.
