Udhayanidhi Stalin was detained at his Chennai home after a case was registered against him over allegedly objectionable remarks made during a rally on the Cauvery water dispute.
The remarks came at a DMK rally in Thanjavur on Monday. He made double entendre remarks in response to the crowd mentioning an actor's name. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has filed a complaint with the National Commission for Women, accusing Stalin of vulgar and sexually suggestive comments. The party says such remarks normalize objectification and undermine women's dignity.
TVK is seeking an apology and legal action against the leader. The controversy has shifted political focus away from the Cauvery issue itself.
