Iran has ruled out negotiations with the United States, with the foreign ministry spokesperson stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. Esmaeil Baghaei told reporters in Tehran on Monday that Iran has not requested a restart of talks with the US, adding that such negotiations are “not in our DNA.”
Baghaei also confirmed that the strategic waterway is still shut, despite recent talks between Iran and Oman about the strait. “The situation in the Strait of Hormuz has not changed; it remains closed, and these negotiations have nothing to do with the US,” he said.
In a separate matter, Baghaei addressed the detention of two French diplomats earlier this month. He said Iran summoned the French ambassador to protest against the diplomats’ actions, which he described as interference in Iran’s internal affairs under the pretext of engaging with civil society. The diplomats were detained and interrogated for several hours on July 19 before being released.
The spokesperson also criticized the US and its allies, accusing them of war crimes and attempting to escape a disaster they created under the influence of Israel. He warned that they would “inevitably pay the price.”
