Typhoon Dolphin bore down on China's eastern coast on Sunday, forcing Shanghai to cancel more than 1,300 flights and prompting the evacuation of thousands of people. The cancellations accounted for nearly 60% of flights to and from the city's airports, according to officials. China's National Meteorological Centre issued a red alert at 10am Sunday, when the storm's center was about 215 kilometers (134 miles) east of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, over the southern East China Sea. The typhoon had maximum sustained winds of about 162 kilometers per hour (101 mph). It was expected to make landfall along the coasts of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces between Sunday night and Monday morning, then move westward.
