Skywatchers are in for a treat next week as the Perseid meteor shower and a solar eclipse occur on the same day. The Canadian Space Agency describes the Perseids as the best meteor shower of the year, with the peak viewing night falling on Aug. 12-13. This year, dark New Moon skies could make the meteors especially impressive. A solar eclipse is also expected on the same day, adding to the celestial show. In addition, Venus will shine brightly in the west after sunset. The month concludes with a deep partial lunar eclipse that will darken most of the Moon, rounding out four major celestial events in August.
