A piece of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket crashed into the Moon on Wednesday, and two spacecraft captured the impact. South Korea's Danuri lunar orbiter took images of the crash site before and after, showing a blackened hole torn into the surface. China's Gande-1 01 space debris monitoring satellite, which launched on July 24, tracked the runaway rocket part and recorded video of the collision. No visible plume appeared in the footage, matching reports from scientists and telescopes on Earth right after impact. The debris belonged to a Falcon 9 used in the Blue Ghost mission in January 2025. The Chinese satellite's tracking was a demonstration of its space surveillance capabilities.
