President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States has cancelled a planned military strike on Iran, saying the “perimeters of a deal” have been agreed to. He added that Iran and other Middle Eastern countries had asked Washington to hold off any attack.
Trump said the United States and Israel have agreed to hold off on new strikes on Iran, provided a deal to end the months-long conflict is reached rapidly. He called for a “rapid deal” on the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has not offered any immediate public reaction to Trump’s announcement. However, Iran has vowed a decisive response to any new aggression.
The announcement signals a possible de-escalation after months of tension between the two countries.
