Bill Oddie, the British comedian and naturalist best known for the comedy series The Goodies and the wildlife programme Springwatch, has died at the age of 85. His agent, David Foster, confirmed the news on Monday, describing Oddie as a multitalented celebrity who valued conservation over fame.
Oddie rose to fame in the 1970s as one third of The Goodies, alongside Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor. The trio played eccentric investigators who rode a three-seater bicycle. The show ran for 76 episodes from 1970 to 1982.
Later, Oddie became a beloved wildlife presenter, co-hosting Springwatch with Kate Humble from 2005. The programme became a BBC Two staple, leading to seasonal spin-offs. Oddie was widely recognised as television's most famous birdwatcher.
Foster said Oddie encouraged people to respect and protect the environment. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Oddie's family have asked for privacy.
