Suvendu Adhikari Releases 1993 Police Firing Report, Criticizes Mamata Banerjee

By TrendingWire Newsroom

West Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has made public a commission report on the July 21, 1993 police firing incident, accusing former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of failing to act on its findings when she was in power. Adhikari, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, released the document on Monday, stating that Banerjee had repeatedly claimed to be a prime witness to the firing but was never questioned by the commission. The incident, which occurred during a protest in Kolkata, has been a politically charged topic in West Bengal. Banerjee, who was a young politician at the time, has often cited the event in her political narratives. Adhikari argued that her inaction on the report proves her hypocrisy. The report, according to Adhikari, contains recommendations that were ignored. Banerjee's party, the Trinamool Congress, has not yet responded to the allegations. The release of the report comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, adding fuel to the political debate.
