Two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh were killed in a terrorist attack in south Kashmir's Kulgam district late Friday evening, officials said. The workers, both employed at a brick kiln in the Kelam area, died in the assault. One of them, Bhupendra Bhaina (28), succumbed to injuries later, while the other died on the spot.
The attack drew condemnation and condolences from political leaders. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced an ex gratia relief of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased, saying no amount of compensation could undo their suffering. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced an ex gratia assistance of ₹20 lakh each for the victims' families.
The victims were described as the sole breadwinners of their families, leaving their households in distress.
