The Union government has told the Supreme Court that it is actively considering shifting the NEET-UG medical entrance exam to a computer-based format. Any structural change to the exam's design would be made only in consultation with the Health Ministry and the National Medical Commission, the Centre said in its submission to the court.
In a separate but related statement, the government said it has carried out a comprehensive overhaul of the examination process to eliminate paper leaks. The two announcements were made by the Centre during proceedings before the Supreme Court, which has been hearing petitions related to the conduct of NEET-UG.
The proposal to move to computer-based testing marks a potential major shift for the exam, which has traditionally been held on paper. The Centre's assurance of a comprehensive overhaul comes amid concerns over the integrity of the examination process.
The court was told that any changes to the structure of NEET-UG would not be implemented unilaterally, but would involve consultation with the Health Ministry and the National Medical Commission, the regulatory body for medical education.
