The Kayastha Pathshala Trust has revoked permission for a student event by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Prayagraj, drawing criticism from his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
The event, 'Chhatron Ki Goonj', was scheduled to take place at K.P. Ground, also known as the KP College ground, on August 8. The trust said it was cancelling permission because of waterlogging issues at the venue and because the High Court had directed that the ground should not be used for purposes other than sports and educational activities.
Priyanka Gandhi criticised the cancellation of the programme. Her statement did not give further details about the reasoning behind the move.
The revocation comes ahead of the scheduled date for the event, which was expected to be addressed by Rahul Gandhi. No new venue has been announced.
The trust's decision follows the court order restricting use of the ground. The organisers have not yet commented on the cancellation.
