The Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty 106-92 on Tuesday night, powered by Kelsey Mitchell's 28 points and Caitlin Clark's 22 points and 10 assists. The win was Indiana's seventh in its last nine games and lifted the Fever to the top of the Eastern Conference.
Mitchell scored 20 of her points in the first half, when the Fever built a 64-46 lead. Indiana shot 59% from the field and 79% from three-point range for the game.
The performance followed a 2 1/2-minute pregame outburst from coach Stephanie White, who defended herself and criticized what she called the sideshows overshadowing the WNBA. Her message appeared to fuel the team.
New York had won eight of its last nine games before Tuesday, a stretch that began after a 20-point loss to Indiana in mid-July.
