Trump Blames Canada for Wildfire Smoke, Threatens Tariff Increase
By TrendingWire Newsroom
US President Donald Trump has blamed Canada for wildfire smoke drifting into the United States and said he will add the cost of dealing with the pollution to existing tariffs on Canadian goods. Heavy smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada has spread across a large part of the US, from the Midwest to the Northeast, in recent days. Cities including Detroit, New York, and Chicago have been affected, with air quality warnings urging residents to stay indoors. On Friday, Detroit was ranked as the most polluted city in the world by an air quality tracker. In a social media post, Trump accused Canada of failing to manage its wildfire response and said he would hold the country responsible. The president stated that the 'incalculable cost' of the smoke would be added to the tariffs the US already imposes on Canadian products. The remarks come as the US continues to grapple with the effects of the smoke, which has caused hazardous air conditions in several major cities. There has been no immediate official response from Canadian authorities to Trump's statement.
