A Delhi court has sentenced former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain and four others to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh handed down the sentences. The prosecution had sought the death penalty, citing the 51 injuries Sharma sustained. Delhi Police described the killing as exceptionally brutal and cold-blooded. After the sentencing, Hussain gave his first public reaction, expressing confidence that the high court would ensure justice and saying it was not too late. The court weighed mitigating factors before deciding the punishment. The case stems from the violent riots that erupted in Northeast Delhi in 2020.
