The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted U.S. targets in Kuwait and hit the two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian statements reported by news agencies. Iran described the attacks as a response to U.S. strikes on several sites in Iran, including Qeshm island, the previous day.
The claims have not been independently confirmed, and there was no immediate U.S. comment. The Strait of Hormuz is a key shipping route for global oil supplies, and any disruption there could have wide economic effects.
