Iran and Oman have agreed on the geographic coordinates for a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Wednesday.
Baghaei said the two countries are finalising a joint announcement on the agreement, provided that certain third parties do not interfere in the process. He added that any such agreement between Iran and Oman would not, by itself, guarantee security in the strategic waterway.
According to NDTV, Iran has seized de facto control of the strait, a vital artery for global energy trade, since the United States and Israel launched their war against the country on February 28.
