Iran and Oman have agreed on a route for ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran's foreign ministry said Wednesday, a potential step toward reopening the strategic waterway for global energy supplies.
The two countries are finalizing arrangements for jointly managing the passage, and a joint statement is being reviewed, according to Iranian officials. Both sides have been in talks for days over how to manage the strait.
Iran has held de facto control of the strait since the United States and Israel launched their war against the country on February 28, according to Tehran. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that Iran is keen to strike a deal to reopen the route.
