President Donald Trump on Thursday imposed tariffs of up to 100 percent on imports of unmanned drones and their components, a move aimed at reducing US reliance on an industry dominated by China.
A proclamation signed by Trump sets a 100 percent tariff on drones of a certain size or with certain capabilities deemed particularly sensitive for national security.
In a separate action the same day, a White House report accused Chinese exporters of routing goods through third countries to evade US tariffs. It named nine Latin American countries among more than 40 nations that carry an elevated risk of illegal transshipment, the practice of moving goods through an intermediate country to avoid duties.
Mexico, Panama and Colombia are the latest additions, joining Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic on the list.
