The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to standardise the Bronco and 2K fitness tests for players, a move prompted by the team's injury-hit tour of England and concerns over player fitness, according to reports.
The decision follows a change in fitness testing drills after Adrian Leroux replaced Soham Desai as the strength and conditioning coach last year. Since Leroux took over, the Bronco test has been made the primary test to judge fitness, replacing the Yo-Yo test.
The BCCI medical team, which includes the Centre of Excellence and the Indian team, has been struggling to work in sync to assess players' fitness, the reports said. The standardised benchmarks are intended to bring consistency to fitness evaluation.
