A Malaysian lawmaker is offering a 5,000 ringgit (US$1,200) reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who set an elderly woman on fire at a lottery shop in Kuala Lumpur. The 62-year-old counter staff member suffered burns to 50 per cent of her body and is in critical condition. The attack happened in Kepong, a suburb about 14km (nine miles) from the city centre. Police believe the unidentified attacker doused the woman with petrol before setting her alight. Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng condemned the unprovoked attack and pledged the reward.
In a separate incident, police in Charlotte, North Carolina, arrested Di-Quan Schafar Hunt after he allegedly recorded himself punching a woman in an unprovoked sidewalk attack and posted the video on social media. The video helped officers identify him. Records show Hunt had been arrested at least nine times since 2023.
