Tamil film screenings have been stopped across Karnataka until further notice after protests erupted over the Cauvery water-sharing dispute. The Karnataka Film Exhibitors Association extended the suspension to all theatres in the state. Farmers and activists forced theatre owners to stop showing Tamil movies.
Pro-Kannada groups have announced a statewide bandh for August 13 against the release of water to Tamil Nadu. The protests are against a direction to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily for 15 days. Farmers and Kannada outfits have staged demonstrations over the issue.
Separately, Karnataka minister Shivakumar postponed a meeting with actor Vijay amid the protests. The meeting was linked to Vijay's Tamil film 'Jana Nayagan', whose screenings have been disrupted.
