Delhi Police in Plain Clothes Detain Activist Sonam Wangchuk
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Early on Tuesday morning, police officers dressed in civilian clothes arrived at the Jantar Mantar protest site in Delhi and swiftly detained activist Sonam Wangchuk. Witnesses said the officers set up curtains around the area before taking him away, preventing onlookers from seeing the operation. Wangchuk had been sitting with a group of protesters at the time. The exact reason for his detention was not immediately clear. Wangchuk, a well-known environmental and education activist from Ladakh, has been leading protests in Delhi for the past several weeks, demanding statehood and special rights for Ladakh, among other issues. The police action comes amid ongoing tensions between the protesters and authorities. No official statement has been released by Delhi police regarding the detention. Similar actions have occurred in the past when authorities have removed protesters in a swift, discreet manner. The incident has drawn criticism from various quarters, with activists calling for transparency.
