Indian Space Regulator Chief Hails Skyroot's Vikram-1 Launch as Historic

By TrendingWire Newsroom

India's space regulator chief has called the upcoming launch of Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 rocket a historic moment for the country and the global space industry. Dr Pawan Goenka, chairman of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), described the mission as a remarkable journey from 'zero to hero'. Vikram-1 is a small satellite launch vehicle developed by Skyroot, a private startup based in Hyderabad. If successful, it will be the first orbital launch by an Indian private company. The rocket is designed to carry small payloads into low Earth orbit, serving the growing demand for affordable space access. Dr Goenka said the launch marks a milestone not only for Skyroot but also for India's efforts to open up the space sector to private players. IN-SPACe, established in 2020, acts as a single-window agency to promote and regulate private space activities in the country. The Vikram-1 rocket is named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India's space program. It uses a unique three-stage solid-fuel design and carbon composite structures. Skyroot has already conducted a successful test of the rocket's upper stage. The exact launch date has not been announced, but preparations are underway. The mission is expected to boost India's position in the global small satellite launch market.
