Iran Strikes Kurdistan Freedom Party Bases in Iraq
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Iran has launched heavy attacks on bases belonging to the Kurdistan Freedom Party in the Iraqi cities of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB. The Kurdistan Freedom Party, also known as PAK, is an Iranian Kurdish opposition group that operates from bases in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Iranian military has previously targeted PAK positions, accusing the group of carrying out cross-border attacks into Iran. In addition to the strikes, Iranian authorities closed the Marivan and Hawraman border crossings with Iraq, urging residents to stay away from the frontier areas in Iran's Kurdistan province. The closures are intended to prevent movement along the border during the operations. No immediate casualties or damage reports were available from the affected areas. The attacks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Kurdish groups operating in northern Iraq, which Iran views as a security threat. Iraq's central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government have not yet commented on the incident. The strikes mark the latest in a series of Iranian military actions against Kurdish opposition bases in the region, which have occasionally drawn condemnation from Baghdad and Washington.
