Turkey Prepared to Back Iran Against Kurdish Incursion, Israeli Media Reports

Israeli media has reported that Turkey was ready to provide military support to Iran to prevent a Kurdish incursion during the recent Israeli-US war on Iran. According to a report by Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11, Ankara considered offering aerial defense to Tehran against Israeli and US airstrikes. The report claimed that Turkey’s warning derailed a plan by Israel and the United States that had been in preparation for months before the war began in February. The report linked Turkey’s stance to recent comments by US President Donald Trump, who said he had discouraged Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from entering the conflict. Trump stated that Turkey “could have gotten into the fight” but stayed out partly because of his request. Earlier, Trump had said Erdogan was “a prime candidate to go into the war with Iran – maybe on the Iran side.” The alleged Turkish intervention is not the only concern for Israel. Israeli officials have grown uneasy over the warm relationship between Erdogan and Trump, viewing it as a sign of Turkey’s growing influence in the region. A recent investigation by The New York Times suggested that the proposed Israeli-US plan to support a Kurdish incursion was part of a broader effort to topple Iran’s government. Tensions between Israel and Turkey have been rising, with Israeli media increasingly portraying Ankara as a threat. Reports have highlighted Turkey’s expanding military and political influence in Syria, Egypt, and other regions, which some Israeli commentators describe as creating a “chokehold” around Israel.
