Indian gangster Chhota Rajan has been sentenced to seven years in prison for obtaining a passport using forged documents. The case dates back to 2002, when an FIR was registered alleging that Rajan submitted false documents to the Regional Passport Office in Chennai to obtain a passport. The investigation began on March 19, 2002.
Rajan, a former associate of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, split from him after the 1993 Mumbai bombings. He is currently serving multiple life sentences for other crimes. The passport forgery conviction adds to his lengthy sentence.
The court found Rajan guilty of cheating the passport office by presenting fake documents to secure travel documents. The seven-year term will run concurrently with his existing life sentences, according to legal experts.
