Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, was briefly arrested on Tuesday morning, a day after his remarks about actor Trisha Krishnan triggered a controversy. He was released later the same day.
After his release, Udhayanidhi shared a photo with his father and said he was Kalaignar's grandson, referring to his grandfather and former chief minister M Karunanidhi.
The ruling DMK called the arrest an "act of revenge." A petition challenging the arrest and seeking legal relief has been filed before the Madras High Court on Udhayanidhi's behalf.
AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami condemned the arrest but also said that for several years they have been urging Udhayanidhi to be careful about what he says.
