Saudi Arabia and Syria have both condemned Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The Saudi foreign ministry said the move contradicts international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, specifically citing Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel's imposition of its laws and administration over the Golan Heights null and void. Saudi Arabia said such positions do not serve peace, diverge from the longstanding international stance, and reinforce the logic of imposing faits accomplis. The ministry called on Colombia to reconsider its position and adhere to international law. Syria's foreign ministry said it categorically rejects and condemns Colombia's move, stating that the Golan is an inseparable part of Syrian territory. Saudi Arabia reaffirmed that the Golan is occupied Arab Syrian land and that any measures seeking to change its legal status do not create any rights or confer legitimacy.
