Mumbai police have uncovered a pickpocketing ring that used encrypted WhatsApp chats to coordinate its activities. The gang operated with a clear hierarchy, assigning specific roles to members and changing its communication codes every day. According to police, the codes were allegedly used to check whether all members were safe, whether anyone had been caught by officers, and whether the day's planned thefts could proceed. The case highlights how modern criminals are replacing traditional hand signals and glances with digital tools, making their operations faster and more difficult to detect. Police did not disclose how many people were arrested or when the ring was dismantled.
