Skubal, a back-to-back AL Cy Young winner, had been heavily linked to the Dodgers, who were considered the favorites to land him. His time in Detroit is over, as the team ships its ace to a club that has won the last two World Series.
The trade leaves other teams that had pursued Skubal — including the Brewers, Rays, Braves, Cubs and Phillies — scrambling to find alternatives. The Brewers, in particular, had been seen as a possible landing spot.
It is not yet known when Skubal will make his first start for his new team, though reports have begun to speculate on a possible debut.
