Iran Halts Agreement with US, Citing Violations
By TrendingWire Newsroom
Iran has suspended its commitments under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, accusing Washington of violating the deal. The announcement was made by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi on Monday.
Speaking to state media, Gharibabadi said the US had failed to uphold its obligations under what he referred to as the "Islamabad MoU." He did not provide details on the specific violations but stated that Tehran was now "busy defending the country" and therefore had halted its own commitments.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries, which have been at odds for decades over issues including Iran's nuclear program and regional influence. The MoU, signed earlier this year, was seen as a step toward reducing hostilities. However, recent US actions, including sanctions and military posturing, have escalated friction.
Iran's decision to suspend the agreement signals a further deterioration in relations. No immediate response from the US government has been reported. Analysts suggest this could complicate diplomatic efforts in the region.
