India has assigned official names to 27 places and geographical features in Arunachal Pradesh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), responding to China's renaming moves in the region.
The standard names were issued on Friday. New Delhi has consistently rejected Beijing's practice of giving Chinese names to locations in Arunachal Pradesh, dismissing the exercise as vain and preposterous. India says such actions do not change the undeniable fact that the state was, is and will remain an integral part of the country.
Several of the newly named sites hold strategic importance because of their proximity to the LAC, the de facto border between Indian and Chinese forces.
