Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day swung to the second-biggest global opening in box office history, collecting an estimated $927 million from 90,000 screens worldwide. The total trails only Avengers: Endgame's $1.22 billion debut and beats Avengers: Infinity War's $640.5 million opening. It also set a franchise record as the best-ever global start for a Spider-Man film.
In North America, the film earned $355 million from 4,487 theaters, marking the second-highest domestic debut of all time, just behind Avengers: Endgame's $357 million. It is also the highest-grossing opening weekend in Sony's history, with Tom Holland starring in the title role.
The movie set another record on its opening day Friday, grossing $168 million domestically. That surpassed the previous all-time best of $157 million set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
The box office success came despite a high-quality bootleg of the film leaking online. According to Variety, the video was posted on X by an account named Fredrick Bryan at 6:05 a.m. PT and was viewed by 5.9 million accounts before being taken down. Millions of people had watched the leak before it was removed.
