A new film about the early life of Anthony Bourdain is rolling out in theaters as part of a dynamic lineup of independent releases this weekend. "Tony," directed by Matt Johnson, stars Dominic Sessa as the young Bourdain. The film is produced by A24. Johnson, known for "BlackBerry" and "Nirvana the Brand the Show the Movie," initially did not understand the public's fascination with Bourdain, who became an internet icon known for travel, conversation, and food.
The release slate also includes Jane Schoenbrun's "Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma," featuring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. Documentaries cover cheesemongers, Girl Scout cookie season, and small-town movie theaters. The annual CatVideoFest is also part of the lineup.
