The Sarajevo Film Festival opens Friday, welcoming the international film community back to the Bosnian capital. The program, which festival director Jovan Marjanovic described as vibrant, includes an increase in female directors. The opening film is Paweł Pawlikowski's "Fatherland." Among the festival's highlights is the launch of Sister Sister, an initiative founded by filmmakers Teona Mitevska and Céline Sciamma, among others. The initiative is described as a bold, punk and revolutionary effort to reshape the role of women in the film and television industries. The festival will spotlight Southeast European cinema, pairing established filmmakers with regional talent. Marjanovic also emphasized the importance of developing long-term, meaningful relationships with filmmakers.
