The head of India's parliamentary standing committee on information technology has demanded an apology from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, accusing him of trying to destabilise the country by removing a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nishikant Dubey, a BJP MP who chairs the panel, said this was not the first time Meta had taken such action. The demand follows the Ministry of Electronics and IT summoning Meta's global team last week over issues related to algorithmic bias, the platform's algorithmic processes and their role in public order. Opposition members on the committee pushed back against Dubey's line of questioning, arguing that anti-government content cannot be equated with anti-national content. Dubey, however, claimed the committee was unanimous on all issues linked to Meta and other platforms.
