Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday demanded Home Minister Amit Shah's resignation, while Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi backed a student protester as the party attacked the BJP government over alleged police action against NEET aspirants.
Kharge said the youth withdrew their agitation on the condition that no action would be taken against them, but the BJP government has now reneged on its own word. He said if there is any shred of shame left, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should get Amit Shah to resign.
Gandhi renewed his attack on the government over the handling of the protests, questioning Shah's absence from Parliament. He said the government cannot threaten the younger generation into silence, expressing support for the student.
The Congress leaders' remarks come amid controversy over the police action against those protesting the NEET exam issue.
