On the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, protests were held by the National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party in Jammu and Kashmir, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the move.
Modi said the region had seen a wide-ranging transformation since the abrogation and reaffirmed his commitment to its progress. He said every citizen should have the opportunity to dream big, achieve, and contribute to a Viksit Bharat, and called the abrogation a decisive new chapter. He noted that seven years ago, the Union government tabled a bill to split the former state into two Union Territories and removed the special provisions under Articles 370 and 35(A).
Sinha distributed appointment letters to family members of terrorism victims and called the abrogation a historic turning point.
