Wildfire smoke from Ontario forced unhealthy air across North America for nearly 106 million person-days in mid-July, according to an analysis. The smoke, which affected Canada and the United States between July 15 and 17, brought unhealthy, very unhealthy or hazardous air. Over the broader July 13-18 period, moderate or worse air quality accounted for more than 769 million person-days. Toronto at one point recorded the poorest air quality of any major city in the world.
In a separate incident, the luxury yacht Angiola II sank off the coast of Porto Cervo in the Mediterranean Sea after an engine failure sparked a fire. The $9.1 million vessel tipped onto its side and was caught on video. It had been delivered to its owner only days earlier.
