OpenAI's longtime chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, is leaving the company to "start something new," ending an eight-year run that made him one of the longest-serving executives still at the ChatGPT maker.
Lightcap told staff he was "excited to help you all advance the mission from a different vantage point," and said he was "not going far." His tenure was unmatched by most remaining employees apart from CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman.
His departure adds to an ongoing shakeup at the AI lab, which has seen a series of leadership changes in recent months. No further details about his next steps were announced.
